Appropriate is Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' family drama, set on a crumbling former plantation in Arkansas where three estranged siblings gather to sort through their late father's things — and find something in the house that forces a reckoning with who he was and what they inherited. It's sharp, funny in an uncomfortable way, and it builds toward a fight that feels uncomfortably like one you've heard at your own family's table. Expect raw performances and a script that doesn't offer anyone an easy out. Spokane Civic Theatre is the longtime community stage where local actors, designers, and crews put together full seasons of plays and musicals, and the room is close enough that you feel the tension coming off the stage.
