Matt & Ben

Hosted by Spokane Civic Theatre

Matt & Ben is the comedy by Mindy Kaling and Brenda Withers that imagines the Good Will Hunting screenplay literally dropping out of the sky into the apartment of two young, unemployed actors named Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The twist is in the casting: both roles are traditionally played by women, which turns the bro-ish bickering over credit, talent and friendship into something sharper and sillier. It's short, fast and quotable, the kind of show that plays well with people who grew up on late-'90s movies. Spokane Civic Theatre is a community stage with a long run of seasons behind it, where the audience, the performers and the people building the sets all tend to know each other. Expect an intimate room and a crowd that's genuinely there for the play.
