R+H Cinderella

Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote this one for television in the 1950s, and it's stayed a family favorite ever since — the fairy tale you know, told with a score that gives Cinderella "In My Own Little Corner" and the prince "Ten Minutes Ago." Expect ball gowns, a pumpkin coach, and a fairy godmother who makes a strong case for "Impossible; It's Possible." It's the kind of musical that works on kids seeing their first show and on adults who grew up with one of the TV versions. Civic is a community theater in the truest sense, with local performers onstage and a crew of volunteers behind them, and the room is small enough that the singing lands without feeling amplified into the rafters. Good for a family outing or a date night that doesn't require much explaining.
