The Importance of Being Earnest

Oscar Wilde's sharpest comedy, and the one people quote without realizing it — two men inventing fictional relatives to escape their obligations, a pair of engagements built on a name, and a handbag that unravels the whole thing. It's all mistaken identity, cucumber sandwiches and lines that land as cleanly now as they did in the 1890s. Lady Bracknell alone is worth the trip. Civic is a community theater in the truest sense, with local actors, local designers and a crowd that tends to know someone onstage. It's a good room for a date night or a group, and the comedy plays well with an audience that's laughing together.
